At a time when energy level scarcity has become an everyday reality, ever increasing numbers of schools are shifting to non-conventional sources of power.
In the past one year, leastwise five schools in the city got opted to depend on solar power for thier electricity needs.
“When we regarded shifting to solar power, a few expertise approached us. In the first action, it was tried out in the convent in 2010. “We installed solar panels in one of the blocks within a trial basis last year, and later stretched out it to the other block too. Although initial cost is a bit high, in the future it will be beneficial as the power bills will arrive down drastically, ” says Sarosh Abraham, Principal, St . Mary’s Class.
It is not just private schools are actually going the solar way. Downtown Corporation installed solar panels at the Governing Teachers’ Training Institute (TTI), Manacaud. “The civic body installed solar at the Manacaud school on an solution basis, and it has been found to be joyful with surplus power being earned. With a proper system, we can occasionally channelise it to the nearby lessons. The Corporation is planning to extend this tool to 10 other schools, actually on a smaller scale.
